Abengoa Bioenergia invests in Energy Crops and Set Aside Lands

Abengoa Bioenergia has decided to invest decisively in Energy Crops and Set Aside Lands as sources of raw material supply for its plants. This decisive strategy has brought a significant increase of cereal from such crops in late years for the plants in production, preparing the way to ensure supply for its plants currently under construction in the European Union.

Abengoa Bioenergia’s intention is to maintain this growth in the future, under the conviction that the biofuels sector, and particularly bioethanol production, are a firm alternative for the european agricultural sector, which will beneficiate with the growth expectations for biofuels in Europe in upcoming years.

In the graphs below, both, cereal purchases quantitative evolution, for the total of Abengoa Bioenergia’s plants, including different raw materials, as well as geographical allotment among the originating countries, can be seen, where the practical predominance of the sources in the European Union is shown.

In this sense, Abengoa Bioenergy’s effort can be seen on the graphs, on the bet for Energy Crops and Set Aside Lands, to obtain the cereal used as raw material in its bioethanol plants. This trend will be maintained, or even increased, in upcoming years, which has caused our company to become leader in using this type of crops established by the European Union, to favor the future of a large portion of the agricultural sector.

This type of mechanisms reinforces the three pillars on which the development of biofuels is based, the agricultural sector, the environment, and the guarantee for energy supply.
